— A Compendium —
Races of Mytharae
The peoples who shape the fate of a fractured world
The Realms They Inhabit
Celestria
A crescent land of empires, trade, and shifting power.
Thaloria
Ancient forests where spirits linger and nature resists intrusion.
Luminaris
Floating islands of magic, study, and celestial power.
Aurelia
Fertile lands of wealth, agriculture, and political ambition.
Valeri (Humans)
The Valeri are the most adaptable and widespread people of Mytharae, capable of surviving in nearly every climate and terrain. Their greatest strength is not magic or physical power, but organization, diplomacy, and ambition. They formalised writing, education, law, and political systems, making knowledge accessible to the general population rather than the elite alone. Empires rise and fall by Valeri hands, and most rulers of Mytharae are of their kind.
Kharum
Ancient stone-born people originating from the mountains of Celestria in the region of Kharum. The Kharum are master engineers, machinists, and architects, combining stonecraft with machinery and technology. Their cities are carved into mountains and powered by mechanical systems, water pressure, and golem labor. They speak a complex, tonal language that other races physically struggle to pronounce. Kharum society is egalitarian, valuing skill and craftsmanship above bloodline or wealth. Their greatest creations are stone golems, mechanical gates, underground cities, and ancient machines whose purposes are now forgotten.
Thalryn
The Thalryn are an aquatic humanoid race originating from the coastal and underwater regions of Ilyra. Their skin is slightly translucent, often tinted blue, green, or silver, and their eyes are large and adapted to low light beneath the sea. They can breathe underwater and on land, though they must remain near moisture and struggle in desert climates. Thalryn cities exist both along coastlines and beneath the ocean in coral and stone structures. They are masters of Tide Magic and navigation, and many serve as sailors, navigators, and weather readers.
Montari
The Montari are an ancient giant race that once ruled the region of Viremont long before modern kingdoms. Towering between 3–5 meters tall, they possess immense strength and long lifespans. After ancient wars and the rise of other empires, they retreated into hidden valleys, mountains, and deep forests, living in secrecy and isolation. Most people believe them to be extinct or mythical. The Montari value memory, oral history, and stone carving, and some of the oldest ruins in Mytharae were built by them.
Sylvarin
The Sylvarin are a tall, tree-dwelling people from the forests of Thornevale but originally from Thaloria. With pale green or moss-tinted skin, they blend easily into their forest homes. They live in massive tree cities connected by rope bridges and platforms high above the ground. They are exceptional archers and hunters, and value freedom, music, and nature above wealth or politics. Their society is decentralized, with small clans rather than kingdoms.
Luminari
Tall, elegant beings originating from the floating islands of Luminaris. Their skin often appears faintly luminous, and their eyes glow softly in darkness. They are naturally gifted in Magica, particularly Star Magic and Sun Magic, but physically weaker than most races. Luminari society revolves around knowledge, magical study, and celestial observation. Many of the world's greatest magical academies were founded by them.
Berrin
The Berrin are small, charismatic people originating from the fertile plains of Aurelia. Known for farming, trade, storytelling, and travel, they often move between kingdoms as merchants, farmers, and diplomats. They are incredibly persuasive and socially intelligent, often acting as negotiators between larger kingdoms. Many trade networks across Mytharae are secretly controlled by Berrin merchant families.
Orlaisi
The Orlaisi people originate from the deserts of Orlais in Celestria. Though similar in appearance to Valeri, their bronze and golden skin is resistant to heat and sun, and many show partial resistance to fire. They possess some of the highest natural Magica affinity in the world and are known for their academies, libraries, and magical research. Many of the greatest Magica theories originated in Orlais.
Skaldir
The Skaldir are a frost-resistant people from the frozen northern regions of Celestria. Blue-skinned and physically powerful, they are often mistaken for barbaric warriors, but are in fact highly intelligent and philosophical. Their cities are carved into glaciers and mountains. They value knowledge, strategy, and endurance. Due to the extreme environment, few outsiders ever reach their lands, which adds to their mysterious reputation.
Caecari
The Caecari are a small, blind race from Luminaris who perceive the world entirely through Magica. They sense living beings, structures, and even emotions through magical currents. Because of this, they cannot be easily deceived by illusions or disguises. Many serve as seers, judges, or advisors in magical matters.
Noctari
The Noctari are a subterranean race deeply attuned to Veil Magic. Their cities exist in vast underground caverns lit by glowing fungi, crystals, and soft Magica light. They are known to be extremely welcoming and hospitable to travelers, valuing stories, music, and conversation, as news from the surface is rare and treasured. However, prolonged exposure to sunlight weakens them, causing disorientation, memory loss, and eventually physical illness. Because of their Veil Magic affinity, Noctari architecture often includes hidden doors, illusions, and shifting corridors.
Draconi
The Draconi are descendants of ancient dragons who once ruled parts of Mytharae. Though mostly humanoid in appearance, they possess draconic traits such as slit pupils, scaled patches of skin, high body temperature, and unusually long lifespans. Some rare Draconi can breathe small amounts of fire or resist extreme heat. They are naturally resistant to Sun Magic and fire, and many are powerful warriors or rulers. Draconi societies tend to value strength, honor, and legacy.
Sarnai
The Sarnai are nomadic horse riders from the plains of Marrowind. They live in mobile camps and rarely build permanent cities. They are unmatched riders, archers, and survivalists, capable of crossing vast plains with little food or water. Their culture revolves around horses, family clans, storytelling, and sky spirits. Many kingdoms hire Sarnai as scouts, messengers, or mercenaries, though they are loyal only to their clans.
Solari
The Solari were an ancient civilisation that mastered Star Magic during the early eras of Mytharae. They built observatories, floating structures, and magical devices powered by celestial energy. Unlike most ancient civilizations, they were not destroyed by war or magic, but by a devastating disease that spread rapidly through their cities. Their knowledge was lost, their cities abandoned, and their artifacts scattered across the world. Many scholars believe modern Star Magic is only a fragment of what the Solari once knew.
Bogryn
The Bogryn are a marsh-dwelling people who live in the swamps and mist-covered wetlands of Thaloria. Their skin tones range from moss green to grey-brown, often patterned like bark, mud, or lichen, allowing them to blend into their environment. Their homes are built on stilts, woven into mangrove roots, or carved into massive hollow trees. Bogryn are masters of herbalism, poisons, medicine, fermentation, and alchemy, and many of the world's strongest medicines and deadliest toxins originate from their marsh gardens. They are patient, quiet, and observant people who value balance with nature rather than domination over it.
Durakai
The Durakai are a powerful stone-affinity people from the rocky regions and mountains of Aurelia. Their skin often has a stone-like texture or coloration: granite grey, sandstone red, marble white, or basalt black. Some Durakai develop natural stone-like patches on their arms, shoulders, or back as they age. With each passing year, their bodies grow closer to the mountains they call home, making ancient Durakai nearly indistinguishable from living stone itself.
Thalori
The Thalori are a mysterious people believed to be partially descended from ancient forest spirits. They live deep within Thaloria's oldest forests where the trees are massive and sunlight rarely touches the ground. Their presence goes largely unnoticed by outsiders, as they move silently through shadow and moss, their skin tones blending seamlessly with bark and earth. Few outsiders have ever truly seen a Thalori and lived to tell of it. They are said to guard the deepest secrets of the old world, and whether they are protectors or predators remains a matter of debate among scholars.
